James Shelton is a devoted father of three, leading a blended family with a deep passion for empowering the next generation. As the founder of Starting Point Empowerment Academy, James has dedicated his life to creating a safe and supportive space where children can learn about life choices and the consequences that follow.
Raised in a single-parent home, James was instilled with the belief that one’s beginnings do not dictate their destiny. Determined to rise above circumstances, he refused to be a product of his environment. After high school, he joined the United States Army, serving with distinction for 24 years before retiring. His commitment to service didn’t stop there—he transitioned into a 16-year career as a Talent Acquisition Leader with a principal aerospace defense contractor, where he continued mentoring and guiding future professionals.
Despite his extensive career, James remains driven by a higher calling. Currently completing his Ph.D. in Management & Organizational Strategy, he embodies the philosophy that education is a tool for transformation. When asked why he pursued a doctorate at this stage in life, he responded, “The children who are like me are waiting on me.” That unwavering purpose fuels his work at Starting Point Empowerment Academy, where he inspires young minds to rise beyond their circumstances and take control of their futures.
Through his leadership, James is shaping a new generation of resilient, empowered individuals and proving that where you start in life is never where you have to end.
