Tamari Miller is a devoted mother of two sons and a fierce advocate for all children. With a deep understanding of grief and loss, Tamari’s personal journey began at 17, when her mother died from cancer after a three-year battle. The absence of grief support in her community left her to navigate this challenging journey alone, an experience that has shaped her passion for ensuring no child grieves in isolation. With a heart driven by service, Tamari is committed to turning pain into purpose.
Tamari holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Texas Southern University and a Master’s Degree in Community and Agency Counseling from Michigan State University. For over 30 years, she has provided compassionate support to at-risk, foster, and grieving children. Tamari has collaborated with parents, schools, medical professionals, and grief support organizations, and has presented locally and nationally on children and grief.
Recognizing the lack of grief support in underserved communities in Central FL, Tamari founded The Umbrella Project, an initiative dedicated to offering grief support directly in those communities. The Umbrella Project provides a safe space for connection through support groups, creative expression, and educational workshops for children and families coping with loss, whether from illness, death, or incarceration. The initiative prioritizes culturally competent, community-rooted approaches to grief, fostering trust and offering personalized support to children and families in need.
